I Declare,
I'm going to try to write without any spoilers. but I'm only human and this movie is a masterpiece.
Laapataa Ladies is not just a movie but a vehicle in which you can sit and see the REAL, TRADITIONAL India and the beauty that lies, Love that hides, and Hope that thrives behind the long veil. You laugh, realize, relive, and adore along the way.
Three statements which are said by the characters and what they signify:-
"Jewels stolen lead to twice the misery, First the theft, then the police inquire."
This movie shows India in 2001 when the Police system was developing and still growing. At one point, the main male character says to his wife, "Jewels stolen lead to twice the misery. First the theft, then the police inquire." This signifies the mentality of people towards police at that time: They were as equally scared and afraid of police as thieves because of the misuse of power by the police authorities for their advantage and pleasure.
"Don't apologize for having a dream"
A side character, Jaya, says sorry to the main male character, but then he replies, "Don't apologize for having a dream." This signifies the open-mindedness of the main character and the pressure on women at that time to not pursue their dreams. For me, Jaya was the main Hero of this film because she was a fighter and a dreamer with the courage to act, to strive to make her dreams a reality. which is very rare, and rare is precious.
"There's nothing shameful in being a fool. But feeling proud of being a fool is shameful"
At a certain point, another side character says "There's nothing shameful in being a fool. But feeling proud of being a fool is shameful" to the main female character. This forces us to realize how foolish we can be at certain times by being too rigid to see the reality in order to confirm what we already believe, and we keep fooling ourselves by acting proud of it, and this holds the power to lead us to our destruction.
Thank you!
"This movie is gold and the one who watches this will become wealthier."
